The Korea Testing Certification Institute (KTC, President An Sung-il) Sleep Industry Promotion Center announced on the 27th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Sun Moon University (President Moon Sung-je) to promote the advancement of the sleep and digital healthcare industries.

The agreement ceremony took place on the 27th at Sun Moon University’s Asan campus in Chungcheongnam-do. Key attendees included KTC President An Sung-il, Bio Business Division Director Kwon Oh-ryun, Sun Moon University President Moon Sung-je, and Vice President Choi Chang-ha.

Key points of the agreement include:

Collaboration and information exchange for the technological advancement of the sleep and digital healthcare industries.

Support for test services based on empirical verification.

Technological exchange and joint research.

Establishment of a collaborative testing and research council.

The KTC Sleep Industry Promotion Center pursued this agreement to ensure the reliability and safety of sleep products and digital healthcare devices, provide test services based on empirical verification, and address potential technical challenges during commercialization.

In March 2024, KTC opened the Sleep Industry Promotion Center at the Asan R&D Cluster in Chungcheongnam-do. This facility is the first in Korea to offer clinical validation services tailored to the sleep industry. Since its inception, the center has supported empirical research, including pilot tests for "Sleeponomics" products and the construction of a big data platform for sleep-related data. It has also introduced transportation validation services to align with U.S. FDA and European MDR certification standards, actively aiding domestic sleep industry businesses in entering global markets.

Sleeponomics refers to the economic phenomenon of modern individuals spending significant amounts of money to improve sleep quality. As people seek deeper, more restful sleep, they invest in related products and services, driving the growth of the sleep industry.

In addition, the center has participated in various domestic exhibitions, such as the Well-Sleep Fair, to create business opportunities. It has built close networks with various companies and institutions to promote the growth of the sleep industry, foster specialized talent, and expand its business scope.

Sun Moon University, under its vision of becoming a "Glocal Community Leader University," collaborates with local communities while nurturing global talent. Recently, through the university innovation support project, it has launched a "Sleep Spa Digital Healthcare Microdegree" program, offering a digital-based, customized education curriculum to train future professionals.

The KTC Sleep Industry Promotion Center plans to establish a consortium with Sun Moon University to jointly undertake government R&D projects. It also aims to host forums in the rehabilitation healthcare field, continuing its collaborative efforts.

Through this partnership, the KTC Sleep Industry Promotion Center expects to contribute to advancing the sleep and digital healthcare industries while strengthening its role as a bridge connecting local communities with global markets.

KTC President An Sung-il stated, “This agreement will enhance the collaborative framework for innovative technological development and infrastructure expansion in the sleep and digital healthcare industries. We will continue to support efforts to improve the global competitiveness of export-oriented companies and drive domestic industrial growth.”
