Two-year postponement of mandatory Indonesian halal certification for imported food products
Date 2024-11-06 Views128

On 18 October, the Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) announced that halal certification of food and beverages will be mandatory from 18 October 2024, in accordance with the Law on Halal Product Guarantee, but that halal certification of food and beverages imported into Indonesia from overseas countries and small and medium-sized enterprises in Indonesia that produce food and beverages will be suspended for up to two years.

This decision is in accordance with Indonesian Government Regulation PP 42 of 2024, which states that for imported food products, the Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs will decide whether to implement the mandatory halal certification by 17 October 2026 after completing the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) between the Halal Product Assuarance Agency (BPJPH) and overseas halal certification bodies.
