"As the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches, we will expand our business scope from the traditional 'Information and Communication Business' to 'AI and Information Business,' including information security, cybersecurity, and AI software evaluation, to become a partner in the growth of companies."

Jiho Bang, the Director of the Information and Communication Business Division at the Korea Testing Certification (KTC), highlighted this as a key focus for KTC this year. Known for its strength in testing and certification in the information and communication field, KTC is now challenging new digital transformation ventures to improve its high-value business structure.

The KTC Information and Communication Business Division is unique among domestic testing and certification institutions, operating as a main division dedicated to the information and communication business sector. Director Bang oversees this area, which includes the Smart Home Appliance Center, 5G Radio Communication Center, Information Security Center, and Software Convergence Center.

Their main areas of focus include cybersecurity testing for Internet of Things (IoT), medical devices, and industrial control systems, as well as testing and certification for domestic and international wireless communication and electromagnetic waves. Recently, they have expanded into testing and certification services for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

One notable area is cybersecurity tailored to the AI era. With the enhancement of the European CE certification regulations, applying cybersecurity to wireless devices will be mandatory starting August next year.

Director Bang stated, "KTC has proactively established partnerships and MOUs with global certification bodies like NEMKO, TUV SUD, and Eurofins, allowing European CE certification with only KTC's test reports issued domestically." He added, "This year, we plan to support our companies' overseas exports by adding the North American Cyber Trust Mark specifications for consumer IoT devices to our KOLAS international accredited testing laboratory standards."

KTC also plans to strengthen the GS (Good Software) certification, which focuses on software reliability and quality. They will operate dedicated teams for GS certification clients to expand the testing areas. Additionally, they aim to secure testing capabilities in the functional safety sector of energy storage systems (ESS) and expand consulting services to general industries, automotive, and elevator safety testing.

For AI certification, KTC is collaborating with the Korea Testing and Research Institute (KTR) to conduct R&D for building AI reliability testing and certification services. They are developing AI reliability evaluation testing and certification procedures based on ISO/IEC TR 24028:2020.

Director Bang mentioned, "As AI spreads globally, the demand for testing and certification for quality and reliability is increasing, and we aim to meet this demand." He continued, "In addition to entering the AI certification service, we are pushing for testing services related to AI safety and security, such as AI lifecycle and risk analysis, following the AI regulatory trends in advanced countries like the US and Europe."

To prepare for the near future, KTC plans to focus on designating a cryptographic module testing institution, establishing standard testing and certification for cellular-based vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) devices, and developing international standards according to the digital ID roadmap.

Director Bang concluded, "Starting with the cryptographic module verification testing institution in April next year, we plan to achieve the certification for security features of quantum communication encryption equipment by 2027 and expand to high-level CC evaluation institutions for hardware IC chips by 2030. Please watch the progress of KTC."
