KTC, the World’s No. 1 Testing Certification Institute Leading the Way to the 4th Industrial Revolution
KTC Strengthens Global Competitiveness of Domestic Secondary Battery Industry through Business Agreement
Korea Testing Certification institute (President Sungil Ahn, hereinafter referred to as KTC) announced on the 25th that it has signed a business agreement for "Enhancing Global Competitiveness of the Domestic Secondary Battery Industry" at the Secondary Battery Comprehensive Management Center in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, in collaboration with the Gyeongbuk Techno Park, KTL, KCL, KTR, FITI Testing & Research Institute, and Korea Environment Corporation.
This business agreement aims to △ establish a mutual cooperation system for the development of the domestic secondary battery industry △ cooperate in technology development, analysis, and evaluation of secondary battery materials and lifecycle △ collaborate in the international joint assessment, technology development, and standardization of batteries.
Despite the rapid growth of the electric vehicle market, eco-friendly policies centered around major countries like the United States' Inflation Reduction Act and Europe's RE100 are acting as barriers for domestic secondary battery companies to enter the market. Consequently, discussions are taking place in Korea regarding the technological framework and related policies for battery reuse and recycling.
In particular, Gyeongsangbuk-do, which is leading this agreement, was designated as a Battery Regulatory Free Zone in 2019, and this year it has been designated as a specialized secondary battery zone. With this designation, it is expected to create a full-cycle industrial ecosystem from battery materials to reuse and recycling, thereby generating synergistic effects.
Through this business agreement, KTC plans to discover new R&D opportunities related to the specialized secondary battery zone and enhance its institutional capabilities by developing battery evaluation technologies and standards.
Jang Dong-hoon, Head of the Energy Business Division at KTC, stated, "This business agreement will lead domestic testing institutions to collaborate and develop battery evaluation technologies and related standards." He added, "We will actively support companies by utilizing our testing and certification capabilities to ensure that the domestic battery industry secures cutting-edge technologies and maintains its position as the market leader."
