KTC, the World’s No. 1 Testing Certification Institute Leading the Way to the 4th Industrial Revolution
KTC Hosts Discussion Meeting on Addressing Korea-Indonesia Trade Technical Barriers (TBT)
On August 30th, Korea Testing and Certification institute (KTC) convened a meeting to tackle the issues surrounding Korea-Indonesia Trade Technical Barriers (TBT). The event was attended by representatives from KTC, the KOTRA Jakarta Trade Office, and the Indonesian National Standardization Agency (BSN), among others. More than 30 local businesses participated in the event, voicing concerns related to trade technical barriers, and receiving responses aimed at resolving these issues.
As part of Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) FTA TBT Comprehensive Support Project, KTC has been operating a support office in Indonesia since 2021. They facilitate assistance through meetings to identify and overcome obstacles faced by exporting companies, in addition to conducting explanatory sessions on certification systems and trends.
Trade technical barriers encompass various obstacles that hinder the flow of trade due to differing standards and technical regulations between trading partners. During this meeting, KTC committed to establishing a network with relevant government departments to swiftly provide information to businesses and collaborate with Indonesian authorities, offering proactive support to address challenges related to certification—an aspect of TBT concerns for our companies.
Indonesia, as the world's fourth-most populous country, is witnessing an increase in Korean corporate presence and a rapid surge in trade volume. The Korea-Indonesia trade volume experienced substantial growth in 2022, with exports (up by 35.4%) and imports (up by 46.7%) showing significant expansion compared to the previous year, in alignment with the global economic recovery trend.
Sungil Ahn, the President of KTC, affirmed, "We will persistently work towards resolving export-related challenges faced by Korean companies and actively bolster exports through measures like expanding into Indonesian testing facilities in the future."
