Korea Testing Certification institute (KTC) announced on the 7th that it has signed a business agreement with Eurofins and TÜV SÜD, global certification organizations, during its visit to Germany from the 5th to the 7th to support Korean companies' exports to Europe.
With this agreement, KTC has achieved a significant milestone as the first domestic testing and certification organization to establish a collaborative framework in the field of IoT cybersecurity with two German institutions. Furthermore, KTC has been designated as the European CE agency for IoT cybersecurity by Eurofins. This designation is expected to expedite the certification process for Korean companies in response to the strengthening of cybersecurity requirements in European IoT cybersecurity certification mandates and the Medical Device Regulation. Notably, this marks KTC's second designation as an IoT cybersecurity CE certification agency, following its initial designation received from NEMKO in March.
Through this recent designation, Korean manufacturers aiming to export to 27 EU member countries, including Germany, France, and Norway, will be able to obtain European CE certification using cybersecurity test reports issued by KTC, eliminating the need to send samples locally. This is anticipated to significantly enhance business convenience by reducing transit times of over a month and logistics costs of approximately 20 million KRW.
KTC has also committed to collaborating with Eurofins and TÜV SÜD in various fields related to information and communication, including IoT and medical device cybersecurity, software, 5G, as well as electric vehicle batteries, chargers, solar modules, and inverters.
This collaboration aligns with the EU's climate neutrality and decarbonization goals, which include expanding public electric vehicle charging points to 3 million by 2030 and banning the sale of new internal combustion engine vehicles from 2035. It will help strengthen the foundation for Korean companies to enter the European market in electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.
KTC, the sole domestic testing and certification organization operating in the field of information and communication as a headquarters unit, is a leader in the field of converged security. Additionally, it has been designated as a testing organization for electric vehicle chargers in various areas by international certifying bodies, including CBTL, UL Solutions in the United States, VDE and TÜV Rheinland in Germany, JET and COSMOS Corporation in Japan, UL Japan, as well as PLN in Indonesia. KTC provides support to Korean companies in obtaining overseas certifications.
Sungil Ahn, President of KTC, stated, "Through this agreement, we are well-positioned to support Korean exports to Europe in response to evolving cybersecurity and EU policies in the electric vehicle sector." He further added, "We remain committed to strengthening our collaboration with global testing and certification organizations to effectively address changing industry trends and country-specific certification regulations."
