Korea Testing Certification institute (KTC) announced on July 13th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Eurofins KCTL to support the growth of domestic information and communications companies and facilitate their overseas expansion.
The two organizations have committed to collaborating in various areas, including cybersecurity for IoT and medical devices, software and 5G, smart appliances, electric vehicle chargers, batteries, solar modules, inverters, global joint marketing of medical devices, as well as testing, certification, and technical support.
The global market size for cybersecurity, which is crucial in the information and communications industry, is projected to reach approximately KRW 247 trillion by 2026, with an average annual growth rate of 9.6% from 2022 onwards. The export value of the domestic information security industry also increased by approximately 8.5% compared to the previous year, reaching KRW 2.767 trillion in 2021.
However, given the mandatory enforcement of IoT cybersecurity certification in Europe by August 2025 and the upcoming implementation of product security and communication infrastructure regulations in the UK by April 2024, there is a need for prompt support to enhance the competitiveness of our companies in the global market in response to the strengthening of international trade regulations.
In response to this, KTC has been designated as the first domestic IoT cybersecurity certification (CE) test agency by NEMKO, a Norwegian testing and certification organization. This designation enables KTC to provide proactive support for our companies in preparing for trade regulations.
As the sole testing and certification institution in Korea operating at the headquarters level in the information and communications field, KTC offers testing and certification services such as Common Criteria (CC) evaluation for information security products, Software Quality Certification (GS certification), IoT security certification, and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing. Moreover, KTC actively collaborates with other information and communications-related institutions such as Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA), Information Protection Unit of Defense Counterintelligence Command, Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP), and Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA) to spearhead the digital industry.
Sungil Ahn, President of KTC, stated, "We plan to pursue the registration of Eurofins Product Service GmbH, a global testing and certification organization based in Germany, as a designated testing agency and expand our global network. By reducing the burden of testing and certification and effectively responding to certification regulations, we will actively support the overseas expansion of Korean companies in the information and communications field."
