Sungil Ahn, President of Korea Testing Certification institute (KTC), announced on the 16th that he visited Japan from March 13th to 16th to sign business agreements with certification bodies, including JET, COSMOS, and UL Japan. These agreements focus on mutual recognition of test reports and other matters related to PSE certification, Japan's mandatory certification system. The aim is to enhance support for Korean companies exporting to Japan.
Japanese certification often requires unique testing and evaluation criteria, as well as additional requirements that differ from international standards (IEC), depending on the product category. This has presented challenges for Korean export companies. However, through these agreements, Korean companies will be able to utilize KTC's test reports to obtain Japanese certification, greatly improving work convenience.

In addition, Japan ranks among Korea's top four trading partners, with imports consistently exceeding exports. By bolstering export competitiveness through certification support, these agreements are expected to contribute to improving the trade balance in sectors such as electric vehicle chargers and wire & cable.
These agreements mark an expansion of KTC's support beyond the traditional electrical and electronic fields to include the growing demand in the wire and cable sectors and electric vehicle chargers. The agreements encompass mutual recognition of test reports, research and development of testing and evaluation technologies, standardization and dissemination efforts, as well as technological exchange.

Furthermore, Korean companies can now obtain Japanese certification for vehicle rapid chargers (CHAdeMO certification) and industrial high-voltage/ultra-high-voltage cables through KTC. KTC will also provide faster and more accurate information regarding previously supported Japanese testing and certification, such as batteries (secondary cells) and slow chargers for vehicles.
With the recent improvement in Korea-Japan relations and the anticipated growth in export trade, Korean battery exports to Japan more than doubled last year. Thus, KTC's export support is expected to become increasingly vital.
President Sungil Ahn of KTC emphasized, "To support Korean companies' exports to Japan, we will continue to explore and provide information on Japanese technical regulations, while enhancing our capabilities in overseas standard testing and evaluation."
It is worth noting that KTC is the leading internationally recognized testing and certification organization in Korea, facilitating the acquisition of all necessary overseas certifications for major country exports, including the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. This contributes to enhancing the national export competitiveness.
