The Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTC, Director An Seong-il) has finally designated LS ELECTRIC Co., Ltd.'s PT&T (Power Testing and Technology Institute) as a KC certification 'Manufacturer's Testing Laboratory' on the 9th.

This designation was finalized after a signing ceremony held at 11 AM on the 9th, on the 9th floor of the Mirinae Hall at the LS Electric Co., Ltd. Anyang R&D Campus.

The ceremony was attended by four officials from KTC including Director An Seong-il, Director Lee Seo-ho, Center Director Kim Yu-seok, and Head Kim Young-dae, as well as six officials from LS Electric Co., Ltd. including CTO Seo Jang-cheol, Director Woo Sung-han, Team Manager Yun Ji-ho, Team Manager An Jung-sun, Team Manager Lee Sang-hoon, and Manager Na Gi-won.

The designation of LS Electric Co., Ltd.'s PT&T as a KC certification manufacturer's testing laboratory was pursued according to the 'Electric Appliances and Household Products Safety Management Act'.

KC certification tests were previously only possible at three testing and certification institutions including KTC. However, following the revision of regulations by the National Institute of Technology and Standards, private company testing laboratories that meet qualifications through production system evaluation including manufacturing inspection facilities can also be designated and operated.

LS Electric Co., Ltd.'s PT&T has been established in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province since 1999, pursuing businesses in three major areas: power automation and green energy. It has operated as a KOLAS internationally recognized testing organization for 20 years and has secured qualifications from the U.S.'s UL and the UK's ASTA testing organizations.

On March 29, KTC received an application from LS Electric Co., Ltd.'s PT&T for designation as a manufacturer's testing laboratory and conducted an on-site evaluation on April 16. Following this, on April 23, the KC Technology Certification Committee deliberated and finally confirmed the designation of the testing laboratory this month.

As a result, LS Electric Co., Ltd. will now be able to proceed with KC certification of manufacturer-tested products through KTC.

The designation of LS Electric Co., Ltd.'s PT&T as a KC certification manufacturer's testing laboratory is significant as it is a 'first' in the heavy electrical equipment sector.

According to the 2023~2024 Electric Industry Trend Report surveyed by the Korea Electric Industries Association, electric equipment exports in 2024 are expected to increase by 4.3% from the previous year to $159 billion (approximately KRW 21.88 trillion). In particular, the aging of the power grids in North America, along with the arrival of replacement cycles for heavy electrical equipment such as transformers, and the expansion of new businesses such as AI and semiconductors across global industries, are expected to increase domestic and international orders for power equipment companies.

LS Electric Co., Ltd. recorded sales of KRW 4.2305 trillion and operating profit of KRW 324.9 billion in 2023, holding a domestic market share of 57% and an export ratio of 43%. Particularly in the low-voltage power equipment market in Korea, it holds 60%, positioning it as a leading company in Korea's power industry.

KTC collaborates with LS Electric Co., Ltd. in testing and certification tasks including KC certification, ESS, electric vehicle chargers, Gokseong DC short circuit tests, and more.

KTC anticipates expanding its collaboration with LS Electric Co., Ltd. in the heavy electrical equipment sector, starting with the utilization of each other's key professional equipment for KC certification cooperation, as well as supporting international certification efforts through IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) CB (International Certification System for Safety and Electromagnetic Compatibility of Electrical and Electronic Products) certification.

Moreover, KTC expects that reducing the certification period will further strengthen its competitiveness in domestic and international markets.

KTC plans to build a partnership with LS Electric Co., Ltd. in new business areas such as semiconductor transformers and energy storage systems (ESS), and to strengthen cooperation in technology innovation and quality management.

Director An Seong-il of KTC stated, "This designation of the testing laboratory has established a foundation to provide customers with stable and excellent products by improving product quality and safety. Going forward.
