The Korea Testing Certification (KTC, President Seong-Il Ahn) announced on the 27th that it has been finally selected as the executing agency for the "High-Efficiency Industrial Blower System Technology Development R&D Project" by the Korea Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP).

This project is part of KETEP’s Core Technology Development for Energy Demand Management - Energy Efficiency Innovation sector, with a total budget of 15.5 billion KRW over approximately 3 years and 9 months, concluding in December 2027.

The research is divided into four main areas ▲Development of high-efficiency EC-Fan technology Development of variable speed motor and inverter technology Development of high-efficiency certification standards for variable speed motor drive systems Development of high-efficiency certification standards for variable speed blower systems.

* EC (Electronically Commutated) Fan: A blower driven by an EC motor equipped with a device that can receive control signals from outside, integrating the signal switching device necessary for BLDC inverter control into a compact motor.

* KETEP launched this project to develop integrated efficiency certification standards and systems to contribute to the 2030 carbon neutrality and energy demand efficiency policies.

KTC formed a consortium with Daeryun Industry Co., Ltd., Taeyang Electric Co., Ltd., Eulji Electric Co., Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, Korea Electronics Technology Institute, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Korea Testing Laboratory, and Hanyang University to jointly secure the project.

KTC will be specifically responsible for the "Development of high-efficiency certification standards for variable speed blower systems."

The goals of the research project include the integrated development of blower, motor, and inverter systems for the design and production of high-efficiency variable speed EC-Fans, and achieving high efficiency across all operating ranges.

Specific research targets include the development of variable speed high-efficiency blower systems with capacities of 3 kW, 5 kW, 10 kW, and 20 kW, aiming for an IES4 efficiency for variable speed power drive systems and FEG 71 and FEI 1.4 for EC-Fans.

* IES: International Efficiency of Systems grade based on the IEC 61800-9-2 standard for high-power drive systems (motor and drive combination).

* FEG: Fan Efficiency Grades based on the AMCA Standard 205.

* FEI: Fan Energy Index based on the AMCA Standard 208.

KTC anticipates that this project will enable significant energy efficiency improvements in commercial and industrial blowers, motors, and inverters, which have been challenging to achieve due to existing technological limitations, through the development of independent technologies and integrated systems.

Seong-Il Ahn, President of KTC, stated, "The widespread adoption of the high-efficiency variable speed blower system developed through this project is expected to result in substantial energy savings," adding, "It will help domestic companies enter the global market, secure global competitiveness, and contribute to enhancing the future competitiveness of the national industry."
