On Friday, October 13th, Korean Testing Certification institute (KTC) under the leadership of President Ahn Sungil, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) led by President  Lee Sang-mok, and Hyundai KEFICO under the guidance of CEO Yu Yeongjong, formalized a significant partnership with Indonesia's Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS) at Hyundai KEFICO's headquarters in Gunpo.

The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Deputy Minister of BAPPENAS, Ahn Sungil, President of KTC, Yu Yeongjong, CEO of Hyundai KEFICO, and Lee Sang-mok, President of KITECH.

This collaboration aims to establish an environmentally friendly industrial ecosystem in Indonesia, with a particular focus on the development, testing, and certification of components for electric two-wheelers, contributing to the creation of a robust micro mobility ecosystem. The partnership is expected to fortify technological and economic cooperation between the two nations, enabling Korean enterprises to establish a strong presence in Indonesia's electric two-wheeler market and expand their exports.

Under this agreement, the organizations will work together on comprehensive solutions related to the battery industry and supply chain ecosystems. This includes the development of components essential for electric two-wheeler mobility ecosystems, the establishment of infrastructure for electric two-wheelers, formulation of safety regulations and certifications, R&D initiatives in technology exchange and cooperation within the green industry and transportation development sectors, and the strengthening of cooperation in Official Development Assistance (ODA) project development.

Indonesia boasts the world's third-largest domestic market for two-wheelers, with a total sales volume reaching 5.2 million units in 2022. To tackle air pollution arising from the increasing number of vehicles and two-wheelers, the Indonesian government is actively promoting the transition to electric two-wheelers. Approximately 87% of Indonesian households own two-wheelers, making them a primary mode of transportation.

The Indonesian government has unveiled national plans for carbon reduction and renewable energy development, particularly focusing on driving initiatives in the electric mobility sector. Their goal is to introduce 2 million electric cars and 13 million electric two-wheelers by 2030.

Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Deputy Minister of BAPPENAS, stated, "The long-term vision is the Indonesian’s gateway to escape middle income trap and to overcome challenges, keep pace with regional and global changes. By this MoU signing with Bappenas, Hyundai Kefico, KITECH, and KTC, we hope to increase and maintain good cooperation between Indonesia and Korea through the creation of a massive green industrial ecosystem, to accelerate economic growth, and contribute reducing the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions globally."

Ahn Sungil, President of KTC, emphasized, "Korea has already established standards for exchangeable batteries in electric two-wheelers. We are committed to transferring Korea's suitability evaluation system and testing expertise to Indonesia, facilitating the establishment of the micro mobility ecosystem, including electric vehicle charging stations and batteries."

Lee Sang-mok, President of KITECH, expressed, "KITECH is at the forefront of national industrial policies and projects, focusing on developing eco-friendly industrial ecosystems. In Indonesia, we have been operating local offices since 2006, possessing expertise in areas such as electric two-wheeler battery sharing station technology development and low-carbon energy transition projects. We are enthusiastic about actively pursuing cooperation."

Yu Yeongjong, CEO of Hyundai KEFICO, conveyed his gratitude, stating, "We deeply appreciate the collaboration with key institutions in Indonesia and Korea. Leveraging Hyundai KEFICO's expertise in electric powertrain systems and our experience in domestic ecosystem development, we are committed to contributing significantly to the establishment of the Indonesian ecosystem through active collaboration."
