On October 17th, Korea Testing Certification institutue (KTC), headed by President Ahn Sungil , and Gyeonggido Business&Science Acclerator (GBSA), led by President Kang Sungcheon, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding at the KTC headquarters in Gunpo. The MOU aims to strengthen support for businesses in advanced industrial sectors.
Under this agreement, the two organizations committed to △ establishing a network to nurture advanced industries △ providing testing, certification, and consulting support for R&D companies in materials, components, and equipment (MCE) sectors △ mutual utilization of GBSA's digital open lab for collaborative activities.
Key sectors in advanced industries include semiconductors, digital convergence, and bio-industries. The global market for system semiconductors is expected to reach $339 billion by 2025. The AI and digital convergence market is projected to be $140 billion in 2025, while the bio-industry market is anticipated to reach $911.4 billion by 2027, indicating sustained growth.
Continued growth in advanced industries, critical for a nation's competitiveness, requires investment in research and development and comprehensive ecosystem support. The collaboration between these two institutions is anticipated to foster the expansion of advanced industry businesses in Gyeonggi Province.
KTC has developed the '13 Strategic Fields' roadmap, focusing on digital transformation, green transformation, future growth, and nationally significant industries, to enhance our nation's technological capabilities and global competitiveness. Specifically, KTC is enhancing research and support activities from components to systems in forward-looking sectors such as displays, future mobility, robotics, AI, and bio-industries.
Additionally, guided by the 'Gyeonggi Province Innovation Growth Strategy,' GBSA is making concerted efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Gyeonggi Province's businesses. This includes attracting global investments, constructing the world's largest semiconductor mega-cluster, and promoting advanced new industries.
President Ahn Sungil of KTC remarked, "Semiconductors, digital convergence, and bio-industries represent future growth industries and national significance, with expectations for continuous expansion." He added, "Through this MOU with GBSA, we aim to expand the network for Korean small and medium-sized enterprises to enter advanced industry sectors and actively support technological enhancements and competitiveness."
President Kang Sungcheon of GBSA stated, "This agreement holds significant meaning in establishing a collaborative network for the future development of advanced industries." He emphasized, "GESPI will continue collaborating with KTC to support Gyeonggi Province's advanced industries and develop systematic nurturing strategies."
