KTC Joins 'Seoul International Electric Fair & Power Generation Korea 2023'

Korea Testing Certification institution (KTC) is set to participate in the 'Seoul International Electric Fair & Power Generation Korea 2023 (SIEF&PGK) ' held at COEX in Seoul from October 18th to 20th.

During this event, KTC will highlight its expertise in testing and evaluating electrical materials related to power protection, transmission, and control, including circuit breakers, power cables, and transformers. The organization will also promote its proficiency in acquiring overseas certifications and R&D strategies.

Furthermore, KTC will concurrently participate in the 'Korea Smart Grid Expo 2023 (KSGE 2023),' providing testing and certification services for renewable energy, both domestically and internationally, covering areas such as solar power generation and Energy Storage Systems (ESS).

With the growing global concerns about climate change and energy security, the market for power materials and renewable energy is expanding worldwide. The Korea Electrical Manufacturers Association anticipates a 12.8% increase in the export value of the electrical industry in 2023, reaching $13.6 billion compared to the previous year. Major domestic power equipment companies such as LS ELECTRIC Co., Ltd., HD Hyundai Electric, and Hyosung Heavy Industries have received orders exceeding a total of 10 trillion won in the first half of this year. In the renewable energy sector, OCI's polysilicon sales increased by 11.9% to 218 billion won compared to the previous year, and Hanwha Solutions' solar business achieved sales of 1.37 trillion won, growing by 48.4% compared to the previous year.

In alignment with this trend, KTC offers testing and certification services for power materials, both domestically and internationally. KTC possesses Asia's largest DC 3600V short-circuit test facility in Gokseong, Jeonnam, and international standard test facilities for 500kV High Voltage AC/DC cables. Additionally, it is designated as UL's wire division testing agency, a global testing and certification organization. This designation allows for UL certification acquisition, a requirement for exports to the Americas, to be achieved domestically.

As a result, domestic manufacturers can significantly reduce additional expenses related to sample transportation, installation, and engineer stays associated with obtaining international certifications. This approach cuts certification acquisition costs by 50% and reduces the required time by half through rapid on-site responses.

Furthermore, KTC has been operating the world's largest ESS fire testing center in Samcheok, Gangwon Province, since September this year. It has established infrastructure, including large dust collectors, a 30MW heat measurement device, a mobile sprinkler system, and 2MW ESS power supply testing equipment. This enables KTC to offer the only comprehensive fire safety testing and certification service for ESS in Korea.

Sungil Ahn, the President of KTC, emphasized, "KTC provides comprehensive testing and certification services in the power industry, covering everything from power materials to ESS and renewable energy. We are dedicated to expanding our foundation in the power sector to enhance the competitiveness of our domestic companies and facilitate exports to overseas markets."

Seoul International Electric Fair & Power Generation Korea 2023 are being held this year under the theme of 'Energy Technologies Opening the Net Zero Era '. This exhibition, featuring the participation of companies and institutions manufacturing power materials for transmission and distribution, ESS, offshore wind power materials, and power security-related materials, is the largest ever, covering 600 booths.
