KTC, the World’s No. 1 Testing Certification Institute Leading the Way to the 4th Industrial Revolution
KTC Leads the Way in International IoT and Smart City Infrastructure Standardization
Korea Testing Certification institute (KTC) is pleased to announce the successful adoption of an in-house developed standardization project during the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) SG20 meeting held in Arusha, Tanzania, from September 13th to 22nd.
ITU-T SG20 is a dedicated research group responsible for overseeing international standards related to IoT and smart city applications and services, with Korea taking the chairmanship role since 2022. This meeting convened over 400 experts from 47 countries and 90 organizations worldwide for in-depth discussions on international standard development.
During the meeting, KTC presented a new standardization project titled "Assessment framework of IoT infrastructure in building energy management system" This project outlines the evaluation criteria and framework for assessing IoT infrastructure within building energy management systems.
The adoption of this new standardization project will play a pivotal role in establishing standards for efficiently managing and providing data for IoT infrastructure in smart city building energy systems. It is expected to further catalyze the development of technologies that seamlessly integrate measurement and information and communication technology.
KTC boasts the highest level of domestic expertise in smart meter testing and evaluation. The organization can comprehensively validate the software integrated into power meters, gas pumps, and water meters, particularly in the context of interoperability testing between power meters and the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) server for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) 2.0. Additionally, KTC is at the forefront of metering and communication (OCPP) for electric vehicle chargers and offers overseas certification testing and technical consultation to support the global expansion of the domestic electric vehicle charger industry.
Heo Jae Sung, Principal Researcher at KTC, and Lee Sang jun, Junior Researcher, who attended the meeting, emphasized, "There is a growing international interest in smart cities." They further stressed, "By integrating smart meters and essential information and communication technology for building energy management, we aim to secure a leading position in the global market and contribute to the advancement of the domestic measurement industry.“
