KTC, the World’s No. 1 Testing Certification Institute Leading the Way to the 4th Industrial Revolution
KTC Organizes Technical Conference for EV Charging Station Industry
Korea Testing Certification institute (KTC) has revealed that it conducted a "Technical Conference for the EV Charging Station Industry" on the 20th at Songdo Central Park Hotel. The aim was to provide support for the improvement of testing and certification services for EV charging station manufacturers.
As part of the "Industrial Hub Enhancement Package Support Project" sponsored by Chungcheongbuk-do, 25 EV charging station manufacturers actively participated in this conference. KTC presented insights into certification trends encompassing safety, measurement verification, electromagnetic waves, and efficiency management for EV charging stations. The discussion covered diverse topics, including △ trends in international certifications, featuring insights from external experts △ revisions to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards for fast chargers △ retesting, among other pertinent subjects. Additionally, dialogues focused on collaborative approaches between certification bodies and EV charging station manufacturers took place.
During the event, KTC garnered attention by announcing its designation as the 8th OCPP testing institution globally. The Open Charge Alliance (OCA) oversees the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP), an open communication protocol for EV charging station operation servers. OCPP is currently undergoing discussions for mandatory adoption as a standard in the United States and Europe, resulting in heightened industry certification demand. However, owing to OCA's policy of designating only one testing institution per country, a certification backlog emerged. KTC disclosed its plans to provide OCPP testing services by the year's end.
Furthermore, KTC has earned recognition as a testing facility endorsed by various global certification organizations in the EV charging station domain, including Germany's TÜV Rheinland and the United States' UL Solution. This positions KTC at the forefront of supporting domestic companies in their export endeavors.
President Sungil Ahn of KTC expressed optimism that the conference would empower EV charging station manufacturers with insights into international standards trends and testing/certification procedures, ultimately bolstering their competitiveness for overseas market entry. He also affirmed a commitment to sustained efforts in reinforcing testing and certification services, along with technical support, for the continued development of the EV charging station industry.
