KTC, the World’s No. 1 Testing Certification Institute Leading the Way to the 4th Industrial Revolution
KTC and KSGA Collaborate for Global Expansion of Smart Grid Companies
On the 28th, Korea Testing Certification (KTC), under the leadership of Director An Seong-il, announced the formalization of a business agreement with the Korea Smart Grid Association (KSGA), led by Chairman Gu Ja-gyun.
During the ceremony held by KSGA for the business agreement, the two organizations committed to collaboration across various aspects of the smart grid sector. This includes sharing the latest trends in domestic and international certifications and evaluations, as well as providing technical consultations related to facility testing and certification.
Additionally, KTC will offer a 10% reduction in testing fees for KSGA member companies. This incentive is anticipated to contribute to cost savings, enhancing their competitiveness in technology development and overseas expansion.
The government's pursuit of carbon neutrality by 2022 led to the establishment of the 2050 Carbon Neutrality Green Growth Committee, unveiling four major strategies and 12 key tasks for carbon neutrality and green growth. In October, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy revealed a strategy for the energy storage system (ESS) industry, aiming for a 35% market share in the global ESS market by 2036. This strategic move aims to position Korea as one of the world's top three ESS leaders, alongside the United States and China. As a result of these government efforts, the smart grid industry is gaining significance in the era of carbon neutrality.
KTC boasts optimal testing infrastructure in the renewable energy sector. As a designated Conformity Assessment Body for solar inverters, it established a solar cluster in Eumseong, Chungbuk, offering comprehensive testing and certification services for modules, inverters, and entire systems. In September, KTC also inaugurated an ESS fire safety verification center in Samcheok, Gangwon. This center is the only facility in Korea capable of testing and certifying the fire safety of secondary batteries and ESS products throughout their development cycle.
Furthermore, KTC has entered into a business agreement with TUV Rheinland for solar modules and inverters. In the field of wires and cables, it has also signed agreements with the Japan Electrical Safety & Environment Research Institute (JET), COSMOS Corporation, UL Japan, and the testing and certification agency of Indonesia's state-owned electricity company (PLN) to facilitate overseas certification acquisition for Korean companies.
Through a "KTC's 13 Major Strategic Fields" encompassing digital transformation, green transformation, future growth, and nationally important industries, KTC is actively supporting the industry's growth by enhancing the technological capabilities and global competitiveness of Korean companies. Additionally, by leveraging networks with major countries worldwide, KTC aims to reduce the time and cost required for Korean companies to obtain overseas certifications, thereby enhancing the country's export competitiveness.
KTC President Sungil Ahn of emphasized, "The smart grid sector, encompassing smart inverters, ESS, and electric vehicle chargers, is a crucial national industry, and we anticipate continuous growth in the export market." He further stated, "Through the business agreement with KSGA, we will establish a network to facilitate the overseas expansion of domestic smart grid manufacturers and actively support the acquisition of overseas certifications."
