  • The Korea Testing & Research Institute for Chemical, Electrical and Electronic Products (hereafter KTC, headed by An Sung-il) has completed the final preparations for the designation of its Shenzhen Testing Center as an internationally recognized testing institution (IECEE-CBTL) in the IT & AV (information and communication technology equipment) field, announced on the 15th. The KTC Shenzhen Testing Center has recently secured the necessary staff and evaluation facilities for the designation as an internationally recognized testing institution (IECEE-CBTL) in the IT & AV field, including securing comparison proficiency. In 2023, the KTC Shenzhen Testing Center was designated as an IECEE-CBTL in the battery field. In 2021, during the preparation phase for the battery field designation, KTC also pursued the designation for the IT & AV field. In 2021, while preparing for the IECEE-CBTL designation in the battery and IT & AV fields, KTC moved the location of the testing center from Futian District, the central part of Shenzhen, China, to Bao'an District on the outskirts and prepared the testing space for the IT & AV field as well. Following the priority designation in the battery field and receiving it in 2023, KTC has embarked on the formal designation of the testing center for the IT & AV field. The center is staffed with professionals who hold at least an associate degree and have over three years of testing experience in the relevant field, and is equipped with over 100 types of specialized equipment. This month, KTC will undergo an internal NCB review and, if it passes the main inspection, it is expected to receive the IT & AV field IECEE-CBTL designation at the Shenzhen Testing Center by June. KTC has established local corporations in Shanghai and Shenzhen, China, and built a close network with Chinese testing and certification institutions, helping domestic companies facing technical regulatory issues entering the Chinese market. This year, KTC signed a business agreement with GRG TEST, a designated testing institution for medical devices in China, solving the NMPA certification issue, which had been a major obstacle for domestic medical device exporters entering the Chinese market. With this agreement, domestic medical device exporters can now conduct on-site testing through KTC instead of sending samples to China for NMPA certification, thus solving practical difficulties such as time and cost reduction. KTC predicts that following the designation of the IT & AV international testing center, it will expand support for exports for domestic companies in the IT & AV field entering the Chinese market, following the medical device field. Especially after the designation of the IT & AV testing center, KTC predicts that the time required to obtain certification can be reduced from about 8-9 weeks to within about 6 weeks. Also, with IECEE member country recognition, local testing in China will be possible, providing services to Chinese companies as well. In the future, KTC plans to explore joint overseas expansion with domestic manufacturers equipped with global competitiveness and to strategically progress regional-specific entry strategies into the global foreign certification market. An Sung-il, head of KTC, stated, "Recently, we have diagnosed the current state of KTC's foreign branches and are exploring future development plans. We will work hard to build competitiveness by establishing joint ventures with global institutions and exploring new testing certification markets such as Latin America and ASEAN."
