The Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTC, President An Seong-il) announced on the 18th that it has become the first in Korea to obtain the ‘Certified Approvals for Reliable and Trusted (CARAT)’ designation from the renowned German testing and certification organization, TUV SUD.

CARAT: TUV SUD's certification program.

The newly recognized fields include seven display testing areas: ▲Photobiological Safety ▲Laser Light Source Safety ▲Bluelight ▲Flicker and Evaluation & Recording (PstLM, SVM) ▲Eyesafe 2.0 ▲Flicker Percent (FP) ▲Flicker Index (FI).

PstLM, SVM: Methods for evaluating flicker, a phenomenon where lights flicker slightly due to changes in current or voltage.

FP/FI: FP is a unit for quantifying flicker, while FI measures the extent to which the brightness exceeds the average brightness within one cycle of change.

In July 2023, KTC and TUV SUD Korea discussed ways to strengthen cooperation with representatives from both organizations, identifying display, a key export item, as a focus area for collaboration. They continued to hold working meetings, leading to this achievement.

As a result, after evaluating KTC's capabilities in testing and certification services, including specialized personnel and equipment, KTC became the first in Korea to obtain the CARAT designation in the display field from TUV SUD.

This enables KTC to jointly provide display performance certification services with the global certification body TUV SUD, increasing the convenience for domestic display companies to obtain overseas certifications and enhancing their global competitiveness through objective quality control.

Founded in 1856, TUV SUD is a leading German testing and certification organization that provides testing, inspection, certification, and evaluation services worldwide. The CARAT program ensures safety and reliability through rigorous testing and certification procedures for products in various industrial fields, including display and electronics.

KTC is already recognized as a CARAT designated testing laboratory in fields such as electronics, electromagnetic compatibility, electric motors, and information security through TUV SUD. This new recognition extends their capabilities to the display field as well.

KTC plans to continue working closely with TUV SUD Korea to expand testing and certification services across all industrial fields beyond displays.

An Seong-il, President of KTC, stated, "This expansion of the TUV SUD designated testing laboratory will provide more opportunities for domestic display companies to actively enter overseas markets. We will continue to build testing and certification infrastructure and engage in research and development to offer reliable testing and certification services to our customers."
