Safety Certification

The electrical product and household goods safety certification program

  • A "product that requires safety certification," shall mean electrical products or household products that fall into any of the following categories;
  • A. The electrical products that require safety certification: The electrical products that are believed to be of a higher level of risks of fire or electrification due to the structure or how they are used, designated according to the Decree of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, as it is believed that safety certification may mitigate such risks.
  • B. The household products that require safety certification: The household products that are believed to be of a higher level of health risks, property damage risks, or the concerns of environmental damages due to the structure or how they are used, designated according to the Decree of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, as it is believed that safety certification may mitigate such risks.

The related laws and regulations

(Article 3 of the Enforcement Rules (The scope of the products subject to the safety management requirements)
  • ① The electrical products that require safety certification are designated as the products which use an AC/DC power source of 1,000 V or less, as shown in Item 1 of Table 3.
  • ② The household products that require safety certification shall be the products shown in Item 2 under Table 3.

  • ① The details of the items that are designated as the electrical products that require safety certifications, electrical products of which the safety must be confirmed, and electrical products of which the conformity of the supplier must be confirmed (hereinafter referred to as the electrical products that require safety management), as per Item 8 under Article 3 of the rule, are as follows;
  • 1. The detailed items in the electrical products that require safety certification are as follows;
  • ② The details of the household products, as per Item 8, Article 3 of the rule, that require safety certification, safety confirmation, and confirmation of the conformity of the supplier, as well as the household products that require the packaging to protect the children (hereinafter referred to as the household products that require safety management) are as follows;
  • 1. The details of the items that belong to the category of the household products that require safety certification are as shown in Table 4.
  • ③ The electrical products that use an AC power source of 30V or less or a DC source of 42V or less are not counted as electrical products that require safety management. However, even if the product has a power source of AC 30V or less or DC 42 or less, the electrical products that are separately designated in Table 1 through 3 are counted as electrical products that require safety management.
  • ④ The electrical products that combine more than two product functions into one are considered as a single model, to which the detailed criteria for model classification for their functions before the combination and safety have a direct impact.

Remarks) It is limited to products that use AC voltage, excluding those used only for communication and data transmission purposes.
